smilla’s cabinet

“Smilla is a collection of rugs where colour plays the main character and design plays the supporting role.

Blocks of similar colours are combined in an irreglular pattern where every rug is unique. When these colour blocks meet the rug is slightly thicker, this adds detail and the skill that goes into the handweaving becomes apparent. The simplest combination consists of just two undyed wool yarns, while the most complex consists of seven different wool yarns. The patterns is a cousin to Rose, it also plays with repeating forms in an irregular way.”
